INLIGTINGSBROSJURE

OPLEIDING

Bushveld Hunters-

Wildlife Conservation Association

The association with a difference

INFORMATION BROCHURE

What is Bushveld Hunters and Game Conservation Association?

(hereinafter referred to as the BHA)

As the name suggests, BJV has two main functions. First, the hunter, with all that goes with it. Think of ethical codes, rules, laws and rules of order in order to practice hunting as a controlled sport. It is also one of BJV's goals to always provide even more hunting opportunities for our members.

There are already 24 associations similar to BJV with a total of ± 15,000 members. Most of the associations are united under the umbrella of CHASA, which also serves as a mouthpiece for the hunter in South Africa. Thus, input was provided at government level on matters concerning the hunter in general.

It can rightly be said that hunters who are not members of a hunters' association do benefit directly from the work done by associations such as BJV via CHASA - without CHASA the restrictions would have been more extensive.

The BJV also forms part of the Hunters Forum which, together with the other accredited hunters' associations, sits around the table with the Central Firearms Register on a quarterly basis to address concerns.

Secondly, every hunter must take care of the wildlife to ensure that he will still be able to practice his sport in the future. The indiscriminate use of our natural resources can cause incalculable damage to our wildlife. Thus, on an ongoing basis through CHASA, assistance is provided to institutions that undertake studies in this regard. Financial assistance has already been provided to various projects such as the relocation of the Mofhartebees, the Bastergemsbok and Bosbokke in planted forestry areas, the study of deaths among Kudus and many more.

In short, it means that the conservation function may weigh more heavily on the serious hunters than the hunting aspect because the latter cannot exist without the former.

ACCREDITATION.

The BJV is an accredited Hunters Association in terms of the “Firearms Control Act” No: 60 of 2000. Our accreditation number is 1300084. BJV is therefore able to award Dedicated Hunters Membership to its members.

Through the BJV's affiliation with CHASA, there is also the opportunity to obtain Dedicated Sport Shooting Status and therefore also obtain endorsements for sport shooting weapons (conditions apply)

ACTIVITIES

The BJV constantly strives to live out the functions as stated above. In order to be able to do this, BJV then undertakes the following:
TRAINING

There is a standard test that can be taken voluntarily by members to determine whether such a person has sufficient knowledge regarding meaningful hunting.

Lectures in this regard are made available to each member and are sufficient to equip him / her for the examination. The test is not intended to determine what a person does not know, but to enable him to determine whether he has sufficient knowledge for meaningful hunting. It is conducted in a good spirit and relaxed atmosphere and should not deter anyone.

The trend among game ranchers and institutions is that only capable members of hunting associations will be able to hunt on the land of such hunters in the future. That is why BJV wants to prepare its members for this in advance.
JUNIOR TRAINING

In addition to the formal side of training, training camps for junior members are also offered annually during which the basic techniques of hunting are taught. These include, for example, game identification, tracking, weapons handling, safety, nature conservation, shot placement, meat handling and many more. The camps

is extremely popular and the quality of many juniors is growing constantly every time. Similar camps are also offered for adult members. The courses are obviously more advanced and are more focused on the practical.
SHOOTING DAYS

Shooting days are offered on a regular basis. Members can also qualify themselves in this area by shooting from the CHASA table. Field positions are shot so that members get the exercise at all times. Shooting bars are also obtained on this table.

GENERAL
IMPALA

A newspaper that is sent out quarterly in which members can share their experiences with everyone. It also contains information on social gatherings, competitions, hunting events and other related facts.
TROPHY COMPETITION

For the members who have hunted for trophies of any species, an annual trophy competition is held where all members can compete. Different sections exist for the various game species and there is also a section for junior members. There are trophy rules that must be strictly adhered to in order to ensure that all entries are hunted legally.
ADVANTAGES

In short, the BJV has no financial benefits. It is a voluntary association where you as a member can contribute to the hunting sport and nature conservation. You are invited to complete the application form and be actively involved in what is important and enjoyable for us and our children.
FAMILY MEMBERSHIP

Family membership consists of a primary member, his spouse and their children who are 24 years and younger and who are financially dependent on the primary member. Only the primary member receives correspondence.
JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP

Juniors older than 18 years who study full-time can, with permission, still pay the membership fees of juniors otherwise all applicants older than 18 years are considered senior members.
